Don't let the title limit yourself !

Gongs are versatile instruments, and sometimes I feel that giving them specific titles limits our perceptions and attitudes. For example, people who object to astrology or anything associated with it may find it harder to open up to meditation when planetary associations are emphasized. Similarly, we often view symphonic gongs as merely musical instruments, but that perspective is limiting—they are so much more than that!

Cosmic Wind (also known as Fen) Gong

The Fen or Cosmic Wind Gong - giver of energy

It resonates with the element of wind, which clears away anything unnecessary or unstable. Just as wind powers windmills, this gong symbolizes the energy needed to propel action. It sweeps away the old and unneeded, creating space for transformation and new beginnings. Wind is also a messenger—the breath of the earth.
My Fen Gong is relatively small, allowing me to play it while holding it in one hand. Whenever possible, I play it near each participant’s feet, allowing them to feel the vibrations and energy directly. This helps to activate the energetic centers of the feet, which are linked to acupuncture points for various organs throughout the body. As a result, the meditation and inner work flow more smoothly, rapidly, and with greater effectiveness. The gong produces slightly different sounds when played near each participant; if the tone is deeper, I play a bit longer to balance the vibrations.

Mercury

Mercury – The link between the material and astral realms

The sounds and vibrations produced by this Gong resonate with the energy of the planet Mercury. As the closest planet to the Sun and the fastest in our solar system, Mercury plays the role of an intermediary between the Sun and the other planets. In astrology, Mercury represents the mind, wisdom, and intellect. It is always ready to experiment, encourages the flow of information, and helps generate new ideas and questions.
Mercury is the master of communication and information. It governs professions that rely on the power of words, such as chroniclers, scientists, teachers, singers, writers, and other wordsmiths. Mercury also oversees commerce, as both verbal skills and the exchange of money fall under its influence. At its core, this Gong embodies the energy of contact and communication, bringing sharpness of mind, wit, dexterity, and youthful energy into its sound.
Mercury was my very first Gong. It has a diameter of 80 cm, and I bought it along with my Wind Gong. I spent several hours playing all the available Gongs, trying to find the right ones for me. My mind was initially drawn to the Chiron Gong, but something didn’t quite feel right. The next day, after more playing and reflection, I realized I wouldn’t leave without Mercury. That’s when I also found my second Gong—Fen.
Mercury is incredibly responsive, cooperative, and adventurous. It doesn’t hesitate to 'work' with energy, and if you’re willing, it harmonizes with intent very quickly. But even if you don’t want to focus on energy work, Mercury will still sing beautifully! It reflects energy and intention with precision, effortlessly balancing and harmonizing it through sound.
I have many stories connected to Mercury, but I’ll share two today:
Mercury’s melody has many layers, and I’m often searching for something special within its sound. One of the strongest energies that flows through Mercury is Gratitude. When a significant task is completed, the participants have relaxed, and disturbing energies have been transformed, the Gongs begin to sing calmly. I then connect to the energy of gratitude within myself and let it flow through the Gong. The sounds change—they become happier, stronger, and more vibrant, filled with energy. Some participants even see golden light or feel warmth, happiness, gratitude, and love during this process.
The second story happened during a photo session at the beach (you can see the photos in the gallery). Playing Mercury's Gratitude on the beach was incredibly easy! To my surprise, in the middle of the Gong’s song, I heard what sounded like a siren, similar to an ambulance or police car. I couldn’t believe it—how could the Gong sound like a siren, right there by the sea? This unexpected 'siren' sound has since become part of Mercury’s song and sometimes reappears during meditations, especially when my friend, an ER doctor, is present. Over time, the Gong has even 'learned' how to sing different types of sirens!
The last story is from a spring solstice several years ago. We were waiting for the sunrise in a snowy meadow while Mercury played. It was my first time playing outdoors, and the scene was magical—everything was white and sparkling! The Gongs sounded so solemn and beautiful. The next day, during a meditation at "Baltā pirts," participants shared their experiences. Many mentioned feeling immense joy and self-confidence, with some describing visions of vast white meadows or the sensation of swinging or flying. Others felt warmth and sunlight flowing from the Gong’s sounds and vibrations. Over time, I realized that the Gong was sharing its own experiences with us. Now, I always inform participants if the previous meditation took place outdoors, as it helps them better understand their visions and feelings.

Venus

Venus attracts feelings and allure

In astrology, Venus is the muse, inspiring love, music, art, beauty, and all things that stir the soul. She symbolizes the feminine essence and is the planet of attraction and choice. Where Mercury connects us through thought and intellect, Venus weaves the bonds of feeling and relationship, keeping them alive.
Venus is not just about love but also about fortune, harmony, and the pursuit of beauty in all its forms. She guides us toward joy, aesthetic pleasures, and balance in both our inner and outer worlds.
When Mercury activates our energetic field, we are drawn to communication and exchange. But when Venus stirs, it’s our emotions and desires that come to life.
I’m particularly fascinated by Venus because, in Latvian astrology, she is also the morning star, Auseklis. This symbol of the light's victory over darkness is one of the Baltic region's most powerful emblems of strength, offering protection to all who embrace it.
My Venus Gong carries this essence beautifully. Her sounds are impossible to ignore. After almost every meditation, at least one person comments on her unique tones. Lately, I’ve been drawn to play her more and more, especially in the summer when the world itself is alive with joy, love, and the songs of nature!

Jupiter

The Great Benefactor

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system, with the mightiest magnetic field, which is why, in astrology, it is associated with vast scope and influence. This planet governs personal and spiritual growth, belief systems, education, good fortune, and grand life goals. It also oversees success in social ventures and community engagements. In Vedic astrology, Jupiter is revered as the life teacher, the Guru.
To me, my Jupiter Gong feels like a meticulous accountant. There's an air of precision and clear intent when I play it, as if every strike is an examination of desires and needs. Unlike Mercury, which invites casual conversation, Jupiter commands responsibility—wish carefully, because wishes with true intent and purpose will manifest. The Gong’s sound changes noticeably when a wish has clarity, becoming richer and more complete.
Within the resonant tones and vibrations of the Jupiter Gong, there’s the sense that each of us has the power to alter our past and shape our future, setting our goals and intentions into motion.

Pluto

Mysterious and Majestic Pluto

Regardless of what astronomers may say, Pluto’s astrological influence remains unwavering. It governs transformation, renewal, and occasionally destruction. Pluto is a force of immense power, creating and dissolving, enslaving or liberating, and driving deep, profound change. It oversees mysteries and the unseen—master of the occult and the unknown, Pluto holds the key to regeneration and rebirth.
Our 92 cm Pluto Gong possesses a rich and enchanting voice, especially in its deep, grounding tones. These low vibrations are nothing short of magical—they ripple through the air like the undercurrent of the earth itself, sweeping through dense energy with a commanding presence. As much as its higher tones sparkle and shine, it’s the profound depth of Pluto's low notes that captivate the spirit. They create a foundation, stirring something primal within, and carry an almost gravitational pull that can transmute even the heaviest emotions.
When meditation participants are burdened with energies of fear, despair, or grief, Pluto never hesitates to sound. Its low tones resonate with strength and purpose, gently clearing what we are ready to release. While other Gongs may falter in such moments, Pluto’s steadfast sound is always there to transform darkness into light. No wonder it’s a favorite, not just among Gong players but also among participants, who often request it by name.
Choosing between Mercury and Pluto for a meditation session can be difficult, though Pluto is often favored for its powerful transformative energy. During special Gong Nights or Puja, however, we don’t need to choose—we bring all our Gongs, for a truly immersive experience that allows Every Gong to shine in all its majestic depth.
